Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity, for both school and the volunteer.
Our children benefit from having volunteers from the community in our school, providing additional support to the children or by enhancing the facilities we can provide.
Volunteering can provide you with
- the joy of helping the children
- increased confidence
- experience of working within a school environment
- learning new skills or sharing the ones you already have to increase the children’s learning opportunities
- being part of a friendly team
Currently we are looking for the following volunteers:
In School Volunteering
We are looking for someone with a real love of children’s books to encourage reading for pleasure within the school.
Duties – to assist in issuing library books to the children, to liaise with the class teacher(s) so that the books on display in the library complement the current curriculum focus, to help keep the library in good order and to champion the use of the library within the school.
Volunteer readers will support our children with choosing library books, listening to the children and supporting the children with their reading.

There are other opportunities available from time to time. If you are interested in volunteering at St John’s, please complete the initial volunteering form and return it to the school. We will evaluate your skill set and availability against our current needs. Successful volunteers will be invited for an initial meeting with the Headteacher. If you become a regular volunteer, we will require you to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
